Jewelry trends for 2009

We're halfway through the year and it's a good time to take a look at what's hot and what's not in jewelry.

Fashion jewelry is icing on the cake of any outfit and this year so far saw a big swing towards the unconventional. Ethnic and exotic jewelry with rich colors and large jewels have been the trend bringing a splash of color to events around the globe. The tendancy is for large centerpiece items rather than the spread of three or four items that has been the standard fixture in previous years. Heavy chokers and necklaces have been the biggest must-haves and the larger the jewels the better. But while the bold and brassy may be good for some occasions traditional and vintage styles of jewelry are still the only way to show a bit of class. For example, hairgrips have made comeback and are available in exquisite silver and gold to add a little something extra to any hairstyle. Likewise, geometric shapes for jewelry, especially earrings are a big favorite on the catwalks and handing from the ears of the stars. Those who can't afford the high price of designer items have been rushing to replica jewelry site where you can pick up fake Tiffany jewelry for a fraction of the cost of the original.

With winter and spring behind us it will be interesting to see how the summer and autumn trends develop over the second half of the year.
